AVIET AGABEG အကြောင်း

AVIET AGABEG is the senior member of the Rangoon Bar . He is the only son of the late Mr. Joseph Agabeg , a well - known and respected merchant at Calcutta , who was descened from a distinguished official in the service of the Persian Government , on whom the honourable designations of Aga and Beg were conferred about a century ago .

Mr . A . Agabeg was born at Calcutta on August 29 , 1844 , and was educated at Doveton College , Calcutta , at Western College , Brighton , and at St. John's College , Cambridge .

At the University he studied , among other subjects , mathematics , under the eminent Professor Todhunter . In December , 1866 , he passed the Law Tripos examination , taking the degree of LL.B. in the following month .

After that , Mr . Agabeg read in the chambers of the late Mr . F . A . Knight , then a special pleader of repute , for six months , and in the chambers of the late Mr . W . J . Bovill , then a barrister in good practice on the Chancery side , for another six months .

He was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in November , 1868 , and shortly afterwards returned to Calcutta , but , finding the Bar there very crowded , he came to Rangoon , where he had an uncle in good practice as an advocate .

Here he remained for six years , and at the end of that period , owing to the death of his uncle and mother , he left Rangoon ( June , 1875 ) , to try his fortune at the English Bar .

In the following November he married the celebrated singer , Miss Edith Wynne . Joining the Northern Circuit , he received a fair amount of work , at the Assizes as well as at the Sessions .

But his principal work lay in London at the Common Law Courts , i.e., in the Courts of the Queen's Bench Division . He appeared ocassionally also in the Probate and Divorce Courts , and before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council , who hear all final appeals from India and the Colonies .

Mr . Agabeg's practice in England extended over seventeen years , during which time he had several pupils . Jointly with Mr . Seymour Harris , the original author of the work , he edited three editions of " Principles of the Criminal Law, " and jointly with Mr . Barry a work on the law relating to bills of exchange and other negotiable instruments in England and India .

He has recently published a book entitled " Recollections and Reflections. " Towards the end of 1892 , Mr . Agabeg , finding himself in different health and somewhat crippled by pecuniary losses , returned to the East , where he has a good practice , chiefly in appeal cases .
